Dive Guide & Divemaster

Headline: Lead the Adventure. Live the Dream.

Description: You love diving. You love talking about diving. Why not get paid for it? The SSI Dive Guide program is the first step into the world of professional diving. It transforms you from a recreational diver into a leader, a mentor, and a role model.

This is more than just a certification; it is an internship in leadership. You will work closely with our Instructors to master the art of underwater guiding, group management, and dive planning. Whether you want to work at a resort in the Caribbean, help out on weekends here in Florida, or just become the most skilled diver in your group, this is where the "Pro" journey begins.

The Two Levels of Leadership:

  • Step 1: Dive Guide (The Course) The core training program. You will focus on practical application: leading certified divers on tours, giving dive briefings, performing surface observation, and navigating the dive site.

    • Result: You can work as a Professional Dive Guide leading certified divers (but cannot assist on classes).

  • Step 2: Divemaster (The Rating) By combining your Dive Guide certification with the Science of Diving specialty, you earn the coveted SSI Divemaster rating.

    • Result: You can assist Instructors during Open Water classes, teach the SSI Snorkeling program, and are recognized as a true dive professional worldwide.

Why Become an SSI Divemaster With Us?

  • Real-World Experience: You won't just sit in a classroom. You will assist on real boats, help with real students, and learn the logistics of how a dive center actually operates.

  • Mentorship: You will be assigned a Mentor Instructor who will guide your development, refine your skills to demonstration quality, and help you find your teaching style.

  • The First Step to Instructor: The Divemaster rating is the mandatory prerequisite to becoming an SSI Assistant Instructor or Open Water Instructor.

  • Join the Tribe: Become part of the inner circle of the dive shop family.

What You Will Learn:

  • Group Management: How to control a group of divers, handle problems underwater, and keep everyone safe and happy.

  • Demonstration Quality Skills: Your mask clearing, buoyancy, and rescue skills will be polished until they are "textbook perfect."

  • Dive Logistics: Mapping dive sites, organizing boat rosters, and conducting professional pre-dive briefings.

  • Stress Management: Learning to recognize stress in other divers and prevent accidents before they happen.

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum Age: 18 Years Old

  • Certification: SSI Diver Stress & Rescue (or equivalent).

  • Experience: Must have 40 logged dives to start the program (and 60 logged dives to be certified).

  • Medical: Current medical exam signed by a physician (within 12 months).
