Exploration Begins Here – PADI Advanced Open Water

You don’t have to be an expert to take this course. This is the most common myth in diving. The PADI Advanced Open Water course is designed to be taken immediately after your Open Water certification. It isn't about being "advanced"—it’s about advancing your skills under the supervision of an instructor.

Think of this as "Discovery Mode." You will complete five different adventure dives, extending your depth limits and trying out new activities like wreck diving or night diving. There are no long exams and no classroom lectures—just you, your instructor, and the ocean.

Why Upgrade to Advanced?

  • Unlock 100 Feet (30m): The Open Water limit is 60 feet. This course qualifies you to dive to 100 feet (30 meters), giving you access to deeper reefs and shipwrecks worldwide.

  • No Exams: Serious. This course is about practical application. You read the chapter, complete a quick Knowledge Review, and then go dive.

  • Sample the Specialties: It’s a sampler platter of diving styles. If you try the "Wreck Adventure Dive" and love it, that dive counts as credit toward the full PADI Wreck Specialty!

  • Gain Confidence: You will refine your buoyancy and navigation, making you a smoother, more relaxed diver.

What You Will Learn

You will complete 5 Adventure Dives over two days.

The Mandatory Dives (Required by PADI):

  1. Deep Dive: Learn how to manage air and safety stops at deeper depths.

  2. Underwater Navigation: Master the compass and learn to navigate using kick-cycles and visual landmarks.

The Elective Dives (Pick 3): You choose the rest based on your interests! Popular options for Florida waters include:

  • Boat Diver: Learn the ins and outs of diving from a charter vessel.

  • Peak Performance Buoyancy: The secret to better air consumption.

  • Wreck Diver: Explore the outside of a sunken ship.

  • Drift Diver: Learn to "go with the flow" in the Gulf Stream current.

  • Night Diver: See the reef come alive after dark.

Prerequisites

  • PADI Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another agency like SSI, NAUI, etc.).

  • Minimum Age: 12 years old (10-11 year olds can earn "Junior Advanced Open Water").
