Dust Off Your Fins – SSI Scuba Skills Update
Been a while? Let’s get you back in the water. Life happens. Whether it has been six months, a year, or a decade since your last dive, the SSI Scuba Skills Update is the "reset button" for your diving ability. It happens to the best of us—work, family, or weather keeps us dry for too long, and the thought of setting up gear again can feel a little daunting.
This course is designed to wash away the anxiety and restore your muscle memory. In a safe, low-stress pool environment, we will review the essential skills you learned in your Open Water course so you can head to your next dive destination with total confidence.
Why Take a Refresher?
-
Don't Waste Vacation Time: You paid for a dive trip to see fish, not to struggle with your mask. Get the awkward fumbling out of the way here in Palm Bay so you are 100% ready when you hit the ocean.
-
Resort Requirements: Many dive operators require a documented refresher if you haven't dived in more than 12 months. We provide the digital verification you need.
-
Gear Familiarity: Did you buy a new BCD or computer? This is the perfect safe environment to dial in your new equipment before taking it to depth.
-
Boost Confidence: There is nothing worse than pre-dive anxiety. A few hours in the pool will remind you exactly why you love this sport.
What You Will Do
This is not a test; it is a guided practice session.
-
Gear Assembly: Review how to set up your tank, regulator, and BCD properly.
-
Pre-Dive Safety Check: Re-learn the "BWRAF" or buddy check protocols.
-
Essential Skills: Practice the "Big Three"—Mask Clearing, Regulator Recovery, and Buoyancy Control (hovering).
-
Emergency Procedures: A quick review of air sharing and weight dropping to ensure your safety instincts are sharp.
Who Is This For?
-
Rusty Divers: Anyone with a certification (PADI, SSI, NAUI, etc.) who hasn't dived in a while.
-
Junior Divers: Kids who were certified young and need a confidence boost before a family trip.
-
New Gear Owners: Divers wanting to test-drive a new setup in the pool.
Expand Your Range
Feeling good? Since you are already in the water, this is the perfect time to add a Nitrox certification or work on your Perfect Buoyancy. Ask your instructor how to combine your update with a specialty!
